About Us: Who we are and what we do

The Greater New York Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts (“GNYC of NMWA”) is a non-profit volunteer organization established to support the mission of NMWA by: raising awareness and promoting the contribution of women artists in the Greater New York area, building partnerships with arts organizations, and providing resources to programs which promote women’s artistic accomplishments.

Our inaugural events will focus primarily on the five women artists chosen by curators from the Whitney Museum to represent the Greater New York area in the national Museum’s Women to Watch program and exhibition. This will encompass discussions with the artists and studio visits. In addition, GNYC are planning a program of lectures ‘History of Women in the Arts’ and visits to museums and to private collections. As a member of NMWA, you will receive member’s only invitations to all of our events.
